young musicianWith music eduction improving all the time the standard which young musicians are achieving isĀ improvingĀ at a dramatic rate. This year’s BBC Young Musician of the Year competition is under way at the moment and the talented performers involved have shocked everyone here not only because they are amazing, but because there seams to be so many of them this year.

The video below shows 14 year old Laura van der Heijden playing a Brahms cello sonata. The first thing is that her technique is flawless, we can understand this, it is not uncommon for children to technically master an instrument. However, what is coming about much earlier in these budding young musicians is their musicality and personality. They are mastering their instruments at an earlier age and therefore moving on to the next stage of performance at an earlier age. It really is exciting to see what some of these players are going to sound like in ten years! Anyway, judge for yourselves by watching the video and leaving us a comment.
